From "Haunted house" to Jungle Booked: The before and after that you never knew about Jungle Booked11/7/2016 "The before and after that you never knew about Jungle Booked" I was terrified when I saw the house. Before we turned it into a homestay, it was rented out to someone and haven't been renovated for years. My mother started her homestay career last year, my sister and I helped her out in designing , branding and internet selling. When the lease of this house expired, my uncle decided to join us in the homestay business. He asked me to help him out and I agreed. In fact, after so many years, it is hard to recall its original look, I was totally shocked by its terrible appearance. Honestly, it really makes me think of a haunted house at the first sight. My uncle, my mom and I worked this out over 2 months, almost all the facilities had damaged or out of fix. The lights and fans are covered by extremely thick dust, the toilets and basin are broken or leaking, The ceiling is full of spider webs and the cockroaches are EVERYWHERE! They are dead though. I was wondering, if someone outside there is looking a venue for horror movie shooting, I'm sure he or she will book this place right away indeed! The site already fully set. It took nearly a month to clear these out, included the broken toilet and furniture. As you can see from the picture above, we broke off many unnecessary cement architecture which I keep trying to figure out why they were there, as to they had became sort of cozy home for insects! If you look closely to the picture, at the right bottom, there is a square-like cement architecture. I found it sort of spooky when I saw this, HAHAHA, it is hard to avoid associating it to something that you can find it in a Halloween or gothic movies. Unfortunately, these are the only photos that we took during the renovation, I should have taken a closer photo of this. Does all these associated to a haunted house? HAHA, Don't worry, it just because the house is too old and not well preserved that make it looked spookie ookie. So here it is! After worked out for so long, we finally gave the house a new feature! We keep the archaic sewing machine that grandma handed down to us, and the old fan and lamp which older than me in order to commemorate the old times. Several walls are painted into dark green and some wood logs that we collected from the roadsides are placed at certain corner, intended to create a nature ambience. In past two months,my uncle and I have become sort of garbage collector, or "Wooden maniac" perhaps, we are craving for fallen trees that abandoned at the roadsides eagerly, ever since we started up this business. Every time after a storm day or heavy rain, we'll get on to his van and driving around the area to seek out fallen tree. Sometimes, if we lucky enough, we'll met some workers who are trying to cut the fallen tree into pieces, so as to move them away. It took a lot of efforts to renovate this house ,despite that,we still enjoy the process. In fact, it's like designing your own house, always thinking of what will be needed to make sure that all necessary equipment are provided ,as we want our guest to feel comfortable and cozy during their stay in Jungle Booked.
